Understanding Lifeless Class Action Settlement

The lawsuit accused LifeLabs of negligent protection of this data, although LifeLabs denied any such claims.

All individuals residing in Canada, alive on the date of Settlement Approval, and who were either current or former users of LifeLabs services, and had their personal data confirmed to be part of the data breach publicly disclosed on December 17, 2019, are eligible. However, this eligibility excludes officers, directors, or executives of the Defendants.

The class includes more than 8.6 million individuals whose private information, including health card numbers from various provinces, was compromised. Among them, approximately 131,957 class members experienced the compromise of their private test requests or test results by cybercriminals.

Following the payment of the ransom by LifeLabs, the cybercriminals returned the data. There is currently no indication that this data is being sold on the dark web or being used inappropriately in any other manner.

Who is Eligible?

If you were a client of LifeLabs and a resident of Canada before December 17, 2019, you may qualify as a Settlement Class Member. As of October 25, 2023, individuals who were LifeLabs clients on or before December 17, 2019, and reside in Canada, can now submit a claim online through the class action website.

Each Settlement Class Member who promptly submits a valid claim form is expected to receive $50, with a maximum payout of $150. This amount will be deducted for court-approved legal costs, expenses, and taxes. The final amount for each individual will be determined by aggregating all submitted claims.

For those who timely file a valid Claim Form and are confirmed by the Claims Administrator as a Class Member, payments will be issued after the settlement deadline on April 6, 2024.

How to Claim it?

To submit a claim, you must choose one of three methods, and the filing period is open from December 8, 2023, to the latest date of April 6, 2024.
